Centre Parcs: Access Roads on Soft Ground

This project consists of access haul roads that support axle loads of 240kN on glacial sub-grades with CBRs of approximately 1%. The road foundation is constructed from a 900mm thick granular 6F2 base reinforced with two layers of TG3030S geogrid. A S8NW non-woven membrane acts as a separator membrane between the granular base and the soft sub-grade. Giroud Han 2024 design method (2024)

Portarlington Trailer and Truck Park (2018)

This project consists of a truck and trailer storage yard with axle loads of 80kN. The sub-grade has CBRs < 1%. The water table was located 300mm below ground level. This made it very difficult for construction vehicle operations. The design dictated that a 450mm thick granular base was to be reinforced with TG4040S geogrid and  S8NW non-woven geotextile. Enniskillen

This project consists of the expansion of a precast concrete products storage yard constructed on a peat sub-grade with CBRs <1% and undrained shear strength < 12kPa. The 750mm thick granular 6F2 base was reinforced with a woven WG50 geotextile.
